Running a live chat platform is not free. The real-time WebSocket server, the AI companion and AI chat personalities, the dedicated VPS infrastructure, SSL certificates, bandwidth, and ongoing development all carry real monthly costs. Until now, ChatNoRegister has operated without any revenue stream, which was never going to be sustainable. To keep the platform free for everyone forever — no paywalls, no mandatory accounts, no paid tiers for basic chat access — we have added Google AdSense display ads to parts of the site.
We thought carefully about the different ways we could fund the platform. A subscription model would contradict the core promise of free, open chat — we are not willing to put basic access behind a paywall. A donation model alone is unreliable and tends to generate enough only from the most engaged users while the rest of the community free-rides, which creates an unfair dynamic. Selling user data is simply not something we would consider, and would directly undermine the privacy-first values that define ChatNoRegister.
Advertising through Google AdSense is the approach that best preserves our values while generating the revenue needed to keep the platform running. Ads are served to users who visit the site, the revenue supports the infrastructure, and users do not have to pay anything or hand over personal information. The tradeoff is that some parts of the site now show ads — and we made deliberate decisions about exactly where and how.
We were careful and deliberate about placement. The guiding principle was that ads should appear in natural content pauses — places where your eye naturally rests between activities — and never in ways that interrupt or overlay an active conversation.
| Location | Ad type |
|---|---|
| Homepage — below the hero section | Responsive leaderboard |
| Homepage — before the call-to-action | Responsive rectangle |
| Article and news pages — top, middle, and bottom of content | Responsive display |
| News and blog list page | In-feed every 4th card, plus top banner |
| Chat side panels (friends wall, leaderboard, news tab) | Compact responsive |
We ruled out several ad formats that would have generated more revenue but at too high a cost to the user experience:
In addition to the manually placed units, we have enabled Google Auto Ads, which may occasionally display vignette (full-screen overlay) or anchor (sticky bottom bar) ads at intervals determined by Google's algorithms. These are standard formats used across most ad-supported websites and are controlled by Google based on your browsing session, not by us. If you find them intrusive, your browser's ad blocker settings give you control over them.
Google AdSense uses cookies to deliver ads that are relevant to your browsing history and interests. Our Privacy Policy has been updated to include full disclosure of ad serving and the data that Google may collect in that process. The cookie consent banner displayed to users on their first visit covers AdSense cookies along with any other cookies the platform uses. Users who decline personalized advertising cookies will still see ads — they will just be non-personalized.
We want to be absolutely clear: we do not sell any user data ourselves, we do not collect personal information from chat users, and the addition of AdSense does not change any of that. Google's data practices are governed by Google's own privacy policy, which is linked in our updated Privacy Policy page.
We understand why people use ad blockers, and we are not going to implement anti-ad-blocker measures that degrade the experience for users who have them. However, if you use an ad blocker and you enjoy ChatNoRegister, we would genuinely appreciate you whitelisting the site. The chat itself will work fine either way, but ad revenue is what allows us to keep improving the platform and keep it free. Every impression helps.
Thank you for your continued use of ChatNoRegister. Every page view and ad impression goes directly toward keeping the platform online, improving the features, and honoring our commitment to free, open chat for everyone.
